If you're a golfer, then you know that there is no end to the the golfing equipment available to us.
You could spend your whole pay packet every month buying new gear, and still feel as if there are more things for you to buy. It can be a bit of a minefield and everybody has their preferences based on what suits their style of play.
But in golf, there are 'The Perishables'. The items that no matter how well you look after them, sooner or later they're going to break, get lost, or need replacing.
Golf tees are one of 'The Perishables'. But even though they're a smaller ticket item, your choice of golf tee should still be a considered one.
What golf tees should I be using?
Golfers have always had the choice of plastic golf tees and wooden golf tees. Wooden golf tees are a favourite for many of the pros and also many casual golfers alike, but the strength of plastic golf tees can't be ignored, which is why a lot of players like to choose plastic golf tees.
But more recently, bamboo golf tees have entered the market.
We believe everybody should be using bamboo golf tees.
Aren't bamboo golf tees just wooden golf tees?
No, they're not actually. In fact, bamboo is not a tree, it's a plant. And it's about 3 times as strong as wood.
The strength of bamboo is no secret. it's still used for scaffolding in Hong Kong (Thanks, Rush Hour). But it's not just its strength that makes it so desirable, its natural renewable properties makes it incredibly sustainable. No nasty pesticides or chemicals are needed to harvest it, and because it's the fastest growing plant on the planet, it's always readily available.
But aren't plastic golf tees much stronger?
There's no denying that plastic is strong. That's why it's used so much across the world.
It lasts forever. But that's exactly the problem.
All golf tees break. Even plastic golf tees break. Given the environmental crisis that the world is facing, manufacturing millions of plastic tees just for them to eventually snap and litter our golf courses, doesn't sit well with us.
Which is why Spike Golf was born. We want to bring Death to Harmful Golf and convert golfers away from plastic golf tees and on to bamboo golf tees.
Our bamboo golf tees are biodegradable, and can break down in as little as 4 months. Bamboo is at least 3 times the strength of normal wood.
Yes, they might break more regularly than plastic golf tees, but at least they break down.
