What are Castle Golf Tees and should I be using them?

When you're a golfer, you quickly learn how complicated the game is. And unfortunately, it can feel like the more you play, the harder and more technical it becomes. But one of the more easier things to get your head around within the game of golf is what golf tee you should be using. And one of the biggest things to consider are Regular Golf Tees vs Castle Golf Tees.

In more recent years, Castle Golf Tees have entered the game and are a favourite amongst many golfers. But why are golfers using Castle Golf Tees? And what even are they?

Why are Castle Golf Tees called Castle Golf Tees?

Well for starters, they are a unique shape. They have a little platform on the bottom of them that stops them going into the ground so far, and as such, when they're in the ground and you perch your golf ball on top of them, they kind of look like little castles. Hence the name, Castle Golf Tees.

What are Castle Golf Tees and how are they different to Regular Golf Tees?

If I asked you to draw a golf tee, you'd draw a straight stemmed, Regular Golf Tee. The oldest and more traditional golf tee. Castle Golf Tees are golf tees that have been designed to give golfers consistency. They have been constructed in a way that they can only be pushed into the ground a certain amount before they are stopped by the thickness of the tee.

But as much as they're loved by golfers up and down the country, the design of the Castle Golf Tee has both it's advantages and its disadvantages.

The advantages of Castle Golf Tees

The advantages of Castle Golf Tees is that you know for sure that you're getting the same height every time. Unless you decide to not use them as they are designed and you ignore the shape of them and push them impossibly far into the ground, then they'll sit at the same height every time.

Consistency is key in golf, and Castle Golf Tees give you consistency. Therefore, a lot of golfers choose to only use Castle Golf Tees because it's one less thing to think about. You know that you're getting the same golf tee height every time.

The other benefit of a Castle Golf Tee is that they are really useful in the winter when many golf clubs introduce winter golf mats. The construction of a Castle Golf Tee means that each golf tee has a little platform, almost like a little stabilising shelf, so it helps to steady up the golf tee on the winter golf mat, therefore easier to get your golf ball on.

The disadvantages of Castle Golf Tees

The disadvantages of castle golf tees is lack of versatility. When you're using regular golf tees, you can push them in to the ground, or lift them out, depending on your preference and your choice of golf club. Therefore, one single golf tee can be very versatile and can be used with a range of different golf clubs. But with a Castle Golf Tee, you're restricted to one size and one size only. If you think you might like to tee it up a little higher or a little lower, then you can't.

You can only get one height from each golf tee. Therefore, you need to buy multiple sizes of castle golf tees to allow for the various tee shots and the different clubs you're teeing off with. Fortunately, you can buy packs of Mixed Castle Golf Tees, so you have all of the different sizes available to you.

Are Castle Golf Tees better than Regular Golf Tees?

Honestly, when it comes to deciding between Regular Golf Tees or Castle Golf Tees, then it's personal preference. If you like the idea of a consistent height every time, then Castle Golf Tees are your best bet. Due to having to have a variety of sizes, they're not necessarily the most cost effective way of buying golf tees, but if you find the golf tee height that you like, then they are a solid options.

But, if you like the idea of finding the golf tee height that feels personal to you, and that you can tweak higher and lower as you want to, then Regular Golf Tees are for you. Given that Regular Golf Tees don't have any blockers, they can be adjusted to suit a variety of heights, therefore you only need to stock 2 or 3 golf tee sizes, making Regular Golf Tees the more cost effective option of golf tee.

It really is up to you what you prefer.

But it is worth noting, that if you're planning on going Pro any time soon, then know that there are regulations in place that do not allow Pro Golfers to use Castle Golf Tees. Thought it was worth mentioning.
